DT Kevin Williams will apply for sixth-year hardship

Nebraska's defensive line should get an added boost in 2016 if everything goes to plan for senior Kevin Williams.
The fifth-year senior defensive tackle from Ohio told HuskerOnline.com on Monday that he is in the process of applying for a sixth-year medical hardship year and it should be an open and shut case. Williams missed both the 2011 and 2013 seasons with knee injuries. In order to get a sixth-year medical redshirt you have to have proof of missing two full seasons with injury.

"I'm going through the process right now," Williams told HuskerOnline.com when asked if he was applying for a sixth-year medical hardship to be back for the 2016 season. "I'll know more about this in the next month or so."
For now Williams is just trying to get back for this week's game at Minnesota. He's missed the last two weeks with a groin injury, which may have had something to do with a sport hernia injury he had over the off-season.
Williams said he went to Germany in July to have sports hernia surgery with world renowned Dr. Ulrike Muschaweck.
Several Huskers have gone to Germany for this same exact surgery. Before a sports hernia injury could take several months to heal, but Muschaweck has perfected a technique that allows athletes back into action in less than two weeks.
"Shoot within a week and a half I was back ready to go practicing in fall camp," Williams said of his surgery in Germany. "The first practice I practiced full and everything. Before I'd maybe just be getting back right now."
Williams, along with cornerback Daniel Davie and linebackers Josh Banderas and Michael Rose-Ivey have all been sidelined with similar groin injuries, but all could be back into action this week at Minnesota.
"We didn't get all the way back into everything," Williams said. "I think that's more so tomorrow and later this week. Just seeing everybody back in their jersey with a helmet on is exciting and that's a good thing to see."
