Nebraska added another commit from Calabasas, Calif. tonight as Rivals100 quarterback Tristan Gebbia decided he wanted to be a Husker.

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound Gebbia had narrowed his list down to Nebraska and Ole Miss over the last few weeks. After taking final visits to each school last week, he went home and realized there were several reason why the Huskers made the most sense for him.

“I think not only was it the ability of the coaching staff to make players excel as men and football players, but the real family atmosphere that I felt at Nebraska,” Gebbia said. “Coach (Danny) Langsdorf and Coach (Mike) Riley have been around each other for a really long time.

“You can just feel the energy there. It’s just like a family. I really feel like they can push me to excel past what I can even imagine myself doing. At the end of the day, it was just a matter of where I felt that I could better myself in all aspects of life.”

Gebbia, an Ole Miss legacy, said the Huskers didn’t do anything different than a lot of other programs that recruited him, but they were always on his mind. The decision to turn down some of his options wasn’t easy, but one that his family is completely on board with.

“I don’t think Nebraska did anything different,” Gebbia said. “I had a lot of really good options and turning down some of those options was a really tough thing for me to do. Not because Nebraska couldn’t separate themselves or anything like that, but because there was a lot about each place to think about.

“It was really tough and not because my dad was an Ole Miss Rebel. He’s always told me go where your heart is and he was 100-percent on board when I told him I wanted to be a Cornhusker. The thing about it is that I loved Ole Miss for where it is. I always loved going to the South and there are a lot of great things about Ole Miss, but Nebraska always just seemed to rise above it.

“Nebraska was a place that always stood out in my mind, though, and I’m just really excited for the next chapter of my life.

The top ranked quarterback in California said the Huskers think he’ll be an excellent fit, not just in its offense, but in the program as a whole.

“I think that they really believe that I can make all of the throws,” Gebbia said. “They like my decision making and think that it can become even better with the help of Coach Langsdorf. I think that they think I just really fit in with the team and how they coach and that I’m the type of player they want in their program.”

Now that Gebbia has joined teammate Keyshawn Johnson Jr. as a Nebraska commit, they plan to be active in recruiting other players to join them.

“I will be back for the spring game. Me and Keyshawn are for sure going to go and try to recruit the best class of 2017,” Gebbia said. “I’ve got to have guys around me. I’m not anything without people to throw to and block for me and play defense for me.

“I just think that Coach Riley is going to put Nebraska back on top and I’m just blessed to be a part or it.”

Gebbia now gives Nebraska four commits for 2017 and is the third four-star of the group. As a junior, he passed for 4,433 yards and 45 touchdowns to only nine interceptions leading the Coyotes to a 13-2 record.
