NU commit Allen will miss four to six months following surgery

Nebraska tight end commit Austin Allen from Aurora (Neb.) suffered a knee injury during a summer league basketball game earlier this month.

Allen successfully had his surgery on his meniscus which he tore in two places this past Thursday, and he will miss the next four to six months in recovery.

The best case scenario would bring him back in late October or early November for the back end of the football season, while the worst case scenario would have him miss football all together and return 100 percent for basketball season.

"It was a pretty good meniscus tear but they were able to suture all of it and didn't have to remove any cartilage," Allen told HuskerOnline in a Twitter message. "They expect the entire tear to heal. All the ligaments were good. They said four to six months to heal and after that I should be 100 percent with no limitations."

The 6-foot-8, 230 pound Allen is the lone in-state commit at this point in the Huskers 2017 recruiting class.
